The conference brought together participants from various countries, including our partners form UNIC Alliance, who had the opportunity to present their research in four main thematic sessions:
- Microbiology, Immunology and Biotechnology
- Biomedical Engineering and Molecular Medicine
- Ecology and Environmental Biology
- Molecular and Medical Biology
This year, we hosted as many as 128 participants, who presented their research through oral or poster presentations and attended lectures by renowned scientists:
- Edyta Reszka, Prof. at the University of Lodz, who delivered a plenary lecture: ‘Current findings on cancer causes and risk factors’,
- Renata Prunskaite-Hyyryläinen, Assist. Prof. at the University of Oulu, who delivered a lecture: ‘Uterine morphology and function as revealed by 3D imaging technologies optical projection tomography (OPT) and multiphoton microscopy’,
- Tomislav Ivanković, Assoc. Prof. at the University of Zagreb, who delivered a lecture: ‘Connecting the dots’,
- Andrea Desiderato, Assist. Prof. at the University of Lodz, who delivered a lecture: ‘Biodiversity advances in the molecular era: filling unknown gaps and searching for unicorns in water drops’,
- Johannes Karges, Dr. at the University of Bochum, who delivered a lecture: ‘Metals and Medicine: A Successful Combination?’.
The 10th edition of the BioOpen Conference supported by the “We are UNIC” project form Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) and was held under the honorary patronage of the Mayor of the City of Lodz, the Marshal of the Lodz Voivodeship, the Rector of the University of Lodz and the Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz.
Furthermore, among the patrons of the conference were: the Polish Academy of Sciences, the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR), the Polish Society of Metabolic Diseases (PTCHM), the Polish Society for Radiation Research, the Polish Botanical Society, the Lodz Department of the Polish Anthropological Society, the Polish Hydrobiological Society, and the Polish Biophysical Society.

The event facilitated the exchange of experiences and the establishment of international scientific collaborations. The Conference's 10th - anniversary edition emphasized the importance of international cooperation in life sciences and the role of young researchers in scientific advancement.
