Polish Studies Students Receive a Grant! "Humanist of the Future" Project at the University of Lodz

The "Future Humanist" project, developed by students of the Institute of Polish Philology and Logopaedics at the Faculty of Philology, University of Lodz, has received a grant from the "Łódź for Science" programme. Thanks to this, representatives of Polish philology will, among other things, visit selected schools as part of an educational mission and create a series of podcasts aimed at philology candidates.

The initiative was developed by Dominik Musza, Zuzanna Walczak, Kacper Hańczyc and Mikołaj Połetek – students of Polish Philology specialising in teaching. The concept of a "humanist of the future" in the project refers to someone who combines classic philological competences – such as text interpretation, linguistic sensitivity and critical thinking – with the ability to navigate the new media landscape, consciously communicate with diverse audiences, and apply humanities knowledge in practice – both in education and in sectors related to culture, communications and the creative industries.

The goal of the project is to popularise Polish philology and present contemporary language teaching methods. The project includes off-site informational and educational workshops in high schools. During these workshops, students will have an opportunity to explore the current state of the humanities, learn more about the teaching profession and explore the educational offerings of the Faculty of Philology at the University of Lodz.

We are proud that our students are so actively engaged in popularising the humanities and sharing their passion with younger colleagues! We are keeping our fingers crossed for the project's implementation and can't wait to see its results!

Prof. Agnieszka Wierzbicka, Deputy Director of the Institute of Polish Philology and Logopaedics at the Faculty of Philology, University of Lodz, praises the students' achievement.

The workshops will take the form of interactive sessions combining presentations, exercises and discussions. Their participants will have an opportunity to explore the practical aspects of working with language – from interpreting cultural texts to issues related to communication and contemporary media. Demonstrating how humanities competencies function today in the job market and in various areas of social life will also constitute an important element of the project.

The project will be complemented by a series of podcasts addressed to prospective students, addressing humanities studies and career development opportunities. The project will culminate in an open final event, to be held at the Faculty of Philology, University of Lodz. The “Humanist of the Future” project is part of an initiative that combines academic education with practical experience and aims to promote knowledge of the humanities among younger audiences.
