The film directed by Steven Bernstein is a combination of poetic biography with a noir atmosphere – atmospheric, intimate cinema created with great attention to words and images. Dominion has never been shown in Polish cinemas before, so this screening is a unique opportunity to see it on the big screen. The evening will be graced by the presence of special guests:
– Jacek Szumla who is a producer, known for the films "Blokersi", "Butterfly Kisses" and "Kiedy ranne wstają zorze", a member of the European Film Academy (EFA),
– Maciej Świerkocki who is a writer, screenwriter, critic and a translator of English-language literature.
After the screening, there will be a discussion with guests, moderated by film expert Diana Dąbrowska. The film depicts Dylan Thomas (played by Rhys Ifans) as one of the most enigmatic figures in the literary world, an outstanding poet, but also a man full of weaknesses, whose life was full of contradictions. The plot focuses on his last day in New York during a tour that was supposed to rebuild his image. Through a fragmentary narrative based on flashbacks, we get to know Thomas through the eyes of those close to him: his wife Caitlin (Romola Garai), Dr Felton (John Malkovich) and his friend John (Tony Hale).
The University of Lodz students can count on tickets available at a special price (PLN 18). They must be reserved through the kultura.uni.lodz.pl system and then redeemed at the Charlie Cinema box office before the screening.
