The Lodz authorities will support the University of Lodz and Lodz Academic Sports Association (AZS Lodz) in the promotion of the university programme Studies and Sport. The programme is addressed to young athletes who want to continue their careers and at the same time undertake studies that interest them. The letter of intent starting this cooperation has been signed at the Faculty of Educational Sciences by the Rector of the University of Lodz, Prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska and the Vice-Mayor of the City of Lodz, Joanna Skrzydlewska.

AZS Lodz about the Studies and Sport programme at the University of Lodz (in Polish)

University of Lodz launched the Studies and Sport programme in the academic year 2022/2023. At the moment, there are about thirty athletes from several sports disciplines covered by it. They can count on, among other things, a free dormitory, student scholarships, individual organisation of studies and additional funds from AZS. Thanks to the support of the authorities of Lodz, the number of the programme participants is to increase, and the sports image of the city is to be strengthened.

We want to build a strong sports foundation at the University of Lodz. The Studies and Sport programme at the University of Lodz is a new chapter of this mission, giving young people who take part in professional competitions tools to comfortably earn a diploma and free their minds in addition to regularly standing on the podium. The development strategy of the University of Lodz for the years 2021-2030 assumes increasing the recognition of our brand, and sport is one of its best ambassadors. I keep my fingers crossed for the successes of our athletes.

– says Rector of the University of Lodz, Prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska

Academic Lodz is a great asset for the development of sport in our city, which is why we want to support the new programme of the University of Lodz as effectively as possible and have more students who combine their career with studies. The potential is huge – more medals, successes and inspiration for other young people who might not even know that you no longer have to choose between a sports career and higher education at an excellent university.

– adds the Vice-Mayor of the City of Lodz, Joanna Skrzydlewska who is responsible for the area of sports in the city (and a graduate of the University of Lodz)

Young athletes whose master class can be confirmed by Polish and foreign sports associations or people who take part in the largest sports events (Olympics, Universiade, World Championships, European Championships) can apply to join the Studies and Sport programme at the University of Lodz.
