“Nauka inspiruje. Więcej niż studia. O tym, jak na UŁ tworzymy społeczność, wspieramy rozwój i popularyzujemy naukę” [Science Inspires. More Than Studies. How We Build Community, Support Development and Popularise Science at the University of Lodz] was the theme of the meeting organised by the Centre for External Relations and Social Responsibility of the University. The programme of the visit was built around these three areas: community, development and science communication.
Participants were welcomed by Agata Dawidowicz, who hosted the entire event. The visit began with a tour of the University of Lodz Library. Guided by Anna Głowacka, guests had the opportunity to explore modern spaces designed for learning, teamwork and social integration, as well as see how a contemporary library supports everyday academic life.
Science Inspires
A significant part of the meeting was devoted to the science communication. Michał Gruda presented the “Science Inspires” programme and introduced the researchers who demonstrate how scientific research changes our understanding of the world. Agata Dawidowicz presented science and arts projects, showing how the University of Lodz brings together science, culture and art. Honorata Ogieniewska spoke about the role of the humanities in building a conscious society, introducing participants to Prof. Tadeusz Kotarbiński, the first Rector of the University of Lodz, and the Professor Tadeusz Kotarbiński Award, the only competition in Poland that recognises outstanding books in the field of outstanding humanities books.
Development, Support and a Positive Study Experience
Magdalena Paszko spoke about how distinguished graduates inspire and empower students. She presented the University of Lodz mentorship programme, through which students can benefit from the knowledge and experience of University of Lodz graduates. Jolanta Lechowska introduced the UniLodz student zones, the university’s modern infrastructure and its cooperation with business. Dr Katarzyna Liberska-Kinderman, Head of the Centre for External Relations and Social Responsibility of the University, spoke about initiatives supporting the student community and about how the University of Lodz promotes equality, diversity and student wellbeing. Participants learned how the university helps every individual develop their potential and feel part of the academic community.
More Than Studies
The event concluded with presentations by the UniLodz student ambassadors Julia Nowocień and Julia Szczecińska, who showed that studying is much more than attending classes. It is also about relationships, social engagement, pursuing interests and gaining valuable experience. This is the image of the University of Lodz that we wanted to present to our guests: a university that not only imparts knowledge, but above all inspires, supports and creates a community.

Get a Taste of Studying
“Get a Taste of Studying in Lodz” is a series of events through which young people from across Poland can learn about Lodz universities, their educational offer and the atmosphere of student life. Once a year, a special edition of the programme is also organised for teachers, headteachers and school leaders from high schools. They are often the first people to talk to young people about their educational future. They are important ambassadors of higher education and valuable partners in supporting young people as they make one of the most important decisions of their lives. This year’s meeting took place on 25 September. The main organiser of the initiative is the City of Lodz Office through the “Young in Lodz” programme.
