  • For the Sake of Working Conditions. Out of Respect for the Academic Community.

A supportive working environment fosters personal development and high-quality research.
We implement measures that promote wellbeing, safety, equal treatment and professional support for the academic community.

Each initiative described below has been assigned to the relevant area of the European Charter for Researchers. For initiatives implemented before the revision of the Charter in 2023–2024, we indicate their correspondence to the principles contained in the previous version of the document. In this way, we demonstrate the continuity of our implementation of the HR Excellence in Research standards.

    Safe and Inclusive Working Environment

We create a working and learning environment based on safety, equality and mutual respect. We implement measures that enable effective responses to inappropriate situations and provide support to individuals facing difficult or conflict-related circumstances.

We have introduced anti-discrimination and anti-mobbing procedures that define the rules for reporting concerns, conducting explanatory proceedings and implementing corrective measures. We also operate an internal whistleblowing system, ensuring confidentiality and protection for those who submit reports.

We support academic mediation and the activities of the Academic Rights Ombudsperson and the Doctoral Students Ombudsperson, which facilitate the resolution of conflicts through dialogue and out-of-court mechanisms. These arrangements are complemented by access to psychological support and assistance in crisis situations.

Our activities in the area of safety are coordinated by the Rector’s Representative for University Safety and the University Safety Team. We also strengthen dialogue with trade unions, which participate in shaping working conditions across the University.

    Transparent Employment and Accountability Rules

We are arranging work organisation and decision-making processes to make them more coherent, predictable and transparent. We strive to establish consistent standards governing institutional responsibilities and the allocation of competences.

We have introduced a new Work Regulations, which set out the rules governing the organisation and order of work at the University. At the same time, we are developing new solutions concerning remuneration and providing a clearer description of the disciplinary procedure, including its successive stages.

We are also improving the system of delegated authority by increasing the autonomy of heads of organisational units in making financial decisions within specified thresholds. This facilitates administrative processes and strengthens accountability at the level of individual units.

    Stability and Organisational Responsibility

We strengthen the University's long-term stability by improving HR management processes and planning activities from a long-term perspective. We adapt organisational solutions to changing demographic and institutional conditions.

We have improved student recruitment processes through the establishment of the Admission Centre, enabling more effective management of admissions and better preparation for changes in the student market. At the same time, we continue to maintain strong recruitment performance at the national level.

We are also simplifying decision-making processes by increasing the autonomy of organisational units within defined areas of responsibility. This improves operational efficiency and strengthens managerial accountability.

    Social Dialogue and Organisational Development

We promote an organisational culture based on dialogue and collaboration. We regularly survey the needs of the academic community to respond more effectively to challenges related to working conditions. The first staff satisfaction survey was conducted in 2024, and a further edition is planned for 2026. The findings provide a basis for continuous improvement.

We also promote good practices in internal communication. The Practical Guide to Professional Communication Culture at the UL sets out principles for everyday workplace communication that help staff respect one another’s time, improve cooperation and support wellbeing across the University community.

We work closely with trade unions, which participate in consultation processes and contribute to the development of organisational solutions.

Research, Impact and the Academic Environment

We support researchers in disseminating research results, developing their practical applications and building partnerships with social, public and business partners.

Responsibility for these areas rests, among others, with the Vice-Rector for Academic and External Relations and the Vice-Rector for Science and Education. Their activities include developing relations with the academic community and external partners, promoting science, supporting knowledge transfer and encouraging the use of research outcomes beyond the University.

Organisational support is provided by the Centre for External Relations and Social Responsibility of the University, which combines activities related to external cooperation, popularisation of science and social responsibility. The Centre develops partnerships, supports research communication and helps develop initiatives addressing social and environmental challenges.

Researchers may also benefit from the support of the Evaluation and Discipline Development Centre. The Centre assists in identifying and documenting the impact of research and provides guidance on presenting research outcomes that contribute to areas beyond the academic environment.
