Our commitment is reflected in the HR Excellence in Research award, granted by the European Commission in recognition of our implementation of the principles set out in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

The implementation of these principles at the University of Lodz is currently coordinated and monitored by two bodies:

the Steering Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of the European Charter for Researchers;
the Working Group for the Implementation of the European Charter for Researchers at the University of Lodz.

Their role is to ensure that the principles of the Charter are implemented effectively and monitored on an ongoing basis. These principles promote transparency, equal opportunities, employment stability and research career development at every stage.

The Committee and the Working Group operate under Regulation No. 79 of the Rector of the University of Lodz of 23 February 2026 on the establishment of the Steering Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of the European Charter for Researchers and the Working Group for the Implementation of the European Charter for Researchers at the University of Lodz.

The Steering Committee monitors the implementation of:

the European Charter for Researchers;
the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers;
the Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment Policy (OTM-R Policy).

Responsibilities of the Working Group for the Implementation of the European Charter for Researchers include:

reviewing the university’s internal regulations and practices to assess their alignment with the objectives, timelines and principles of the European Charter for Researchers, the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers and the OTM-R Policy;
initiating and supporting measures that contribute to the effective implementation of the principles associated with the HR Excellence in Research award;
updating the Action Plan and assessing progress towards the objectives set out in the University of Lodz Human Resources Strategy for Researchers;
reporting progress in implementing the European Charter for Researchers, the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers and the OTM-R Policy to the Steering Committee and the European Commission.

History of the Implementation of the European Charter for Researchers at UniLodz

Work on implementing the principles of the European Charter for Researchers at the University of Lodz began in 2015.

As part of the preparations for obtaining the HR Excellence in Research award, the Committee for the Implementation of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers at the University of Lodz was established on 23 May 2016 under Regulation No. 83 of the Rector of the University of Lodz.

The Committee supported the university in preparing for the assessment conducted by the European Commission. The process resulted in the University of Lodz receiving the HR Excellence in Research award in 2017.
