Szkoła Doktorska BioMedChem UŁ z kolejnym partnerem z PAN

Bio-Med-Chem Doctoral School of the University of Lodz has another scientific partner which will further raise the research and teaching level of the unit. The European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (ERCE PAN) under the auspices of UNESCO has become the fourth institution co-running the school. The Bio-Med-Chem Doctoral School of the University of Lodz was established in 2019 in agreement between three entities, i.e. the University of Lodz that represents biological and chemical sciences, the Institute of Medical Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences representing medical sciences and the Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences representing chemical sciences.

Four representatives of the partner institutions on the steps with the signed documentsAfter signing the cooperation agreement: Prof. Elzbieta Żądzińska – Rector of the University of Lodz , dr hab. Katarzyna Izydorczyk (ERCE PAN Professor) – Director of the ERCE PAN, Prof. dr hab. Jarosław Dziadek – Director of the Institute of Medical Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Prof. dr hab. Marek Koniecowski, Director of the Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

New opportunities for doctoral students from the University of Lodz

The accession of the new partner extends the interdisciplinarity of the Bio-Med-Chem Doctoral School of the University of Lodz and Lodz Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Its doctoral students will gain access to the research equipment of yet another Institute and will be able to conduct research under the supervision of world-renowned scientists, which will contribute to strengthening the level of research and education conducted in the Lodz Voivodeship.

University of Lodz strongly focuses on educating doctoral students, because they are simply the future of our university. Therefore, we try to provide them with optimal conditions for development, which is already very meticulously verified at the level of the third-cycle studies. That is why the tools to achieve this purpose must be best and this is guaranteed by our partnership with the ERCE PAN. I would like to thank the Authorities of the Institute for taking this step, I am sure that this is the beginning of great cooperation. The area related to ecology is extremely important to us

– says Prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska, Rector of the University of Lodz

The ceremony was also attended by Prof. dr hab. Jarosław Dziadek – Director of the Institute of Medical Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Prof. dr hab. Marek Koniecowski, Director of the Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, dr hab. Katarzyna Izydorczyk (Professor at ERCE PAN) – Director of the ERCE PAN Institute and dr hab. Katarzyna Dzitko (Associate Professor at the University of Lodz) – Director of the Bio-Med-Chem Doctoral School of the University of Lodz and Lodz Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Scientific profile of the European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (ERCE PAN) focuses on the development of ecohydrological sciences and their implementation for the restoration of freshwater resources as part of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme. Ecohydrology provides innovative tools for the regulation of ecological processes from the molecular to landscape scale in order to achieve the balance between human needs and the potential of the environment

– says dr hab. Katarzyna Izydorczyk (ERCE PAN Professor), Director of the ERCE PAN.

University of Lodz BioMedChem – diverse education

Bio-Med-Chem Doctoral School of the University of Lodz and Lodz Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Lodz is by definition an interdisciplinary school. Regardless of the discipline in which the PhD degree is awarded (biological, medical and chemical sciences), the knowledge acquired during education at the school remains closely related to other disciplines.

The accession of a new partner to the Bio-Med-Chem Doctoral School of the University of Lodz and Lodz Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences will not only significantly enhance cooperation between the four units but also raise the school's profile in the scientific community. In my role as a Director, I know that it is equally important to build a student-master relationship, which materialises when passing on the knowledge and experience gained to younger generations, often during many hours spent together in laboratories or during field activities. Given the achievements of the ERCE researchers, I feel convinced that the doctoral supervisors we have recruited will contribute to the training curriculum by preparing impressive Individual Research Plans together with the doctoral students and, in line with the new procedure, will pass the mid-term evaluation

– comments dr hab. Katarzyna Dzitko (Associate Professor at the University of Lodz), Director of the Bio-Med-Chem Doctoral School of the University of Lodz and Lodz Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
