Nauka inspiruje - prof. Jakub Kronenberg

On Polish Science Day, we inaugurated a new series as part of which, under the slogan Science Inspires, we present the profiles of scientists from the University of Lodz. New publications consisting of a photograph taken especially for this occasion and the scientists' answers to three seemingly simple questions about the sources of their own inspiration in exercising their profession will appear systematically. We encourage you to read the answers of Prof. Jakub Kronenberg.

dr hab. Jakub Kronenberg, Associate Professor – an ecological economist, Head of the Social-Ecological Systems Analysis Lab. His research interests include various aspects of environmental values, environmental justice, sustainable consumption and degrowth.

What inspired you to become a scientist?

As a child, I dreamt of being a scientist wearing a white coat, just like some children dream of being firefighters or astronauts. Even though my everyday outfit doesn't look exactly like I imagined, I’m happy to have successfully fulfilled my childhood dream.

What impact does your work have on the surrounding reality?

Our research supports decision-making processes and is of interest to other researchers and the media, e.g. we highlight that most green spaces in cities are informal and not adequately protected. And indeed, this issue is increasingly considered in planning.

How do you understand the term: profession of a scientist?

It is a constant exploration, organising and transferring knowledge. It involves cooperation with other researchers as well as other stakeholders, participation in various advisory bodies. International cooperation is particularly important in this context. Science has no boundaries!
