About us

The Department of Operations Research and Logistics at the University of Lodz is part of the Institute of Logistics and Informatics within the Faculty of Economics and Sociology. The research and teaching activities of the Department focus on the application of analytical, mathematical, and information technology methods to support decision-making processes and address contemporary economic and social challenges. By combining the operations research approach with perspectives from logistics and supply chain management, the Department conducts interdisciplinary research aimed at addressing the challenges of digital transformation, sustainable development, and the increasing complexity of economic processes.

The Department's main research areas include:

• mathematical programming and multicriteria decision support,
• modelling and optimisation of logistics processes and supply networks,
• data analytics and artificial intelligence methods,
• Logistics 4.0 and digital supply chains,
• sustainable logistics, green logistics, and the circular economy,
• smart cities and last-mile logistics,
• logistics in e-commerce and healthcare,
• risk management and decision-making under uncertainty,
• inventory and transportation process modelling,
• simulation of economic and logistics processes,
• logistics service markets and customer service from a logistics and marketing perspective.

The integration of expertise in operations research, quantitative methods, and logistics enables the Department to conduct advanced interdisciplinary research and educate students in areas that are crucial for the modern economy.
