About us

The Faculty of Economics and Sociology is the largest among the faculties of the University of Lodz. More than 500 employees work here. Scientific and teaching activities are carried out within the framework of 8 institutes. Many graduates and academics of the Faculty have held or still hold honorable positions in the public life of Poland and in the institutions of the European Union.
The main directions of scientific research focus - in accordance with the Faculty's profile - on economic and social issues, both regionally, nationally and internationally. They encompass dozens of different sub-disciplines and specialties, falling within the three main disciplines, i.e. economics and finance, sociological sciences, and socio-economic geography and spatial management.
The research undertaken includes both theoretical and methodological considerations, as well as those of an applied nature. Their subjects include national and local economies, enterprises, households, infrastructure, the environment, human capital, social capital, the labor market, the market for goods and services, the capital market, etc.

The educational offer of the Faculty includes studies of economic and social profile, conducted in the full-time and part-time system, at all levels of education, which allows the implementation of the idea of lifelong learning. We offer:

  • studies of the first degree (bachelor's) - 13 fields of study, including the direction of Economics conducted in English, with IACBE accreditation,
  • studies of the  II degree (Master's) - 12 fields of study, including Economics conducted in English, with IACBE accreditation,
  • studies at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences,
  • postgraduate studies.

 

Studying at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology helps to acquire qualifications useful for work in both public and private sector units, including starting and running an independent business. They allow to develop entrepreneurial skills, critical and analytical thinking, make independent decisions, as well as form the readiness to implement individual and team actions, build relationships or determine the direction of their own development. 

The Faculty of Economics and Sociology has a rich tradition of building relationships with the environment. An expression of openness to the reported needs is the Program of cooperation with the environment implemented at the Faculty. A number of activities are regularly undertaken to make the knowledge imparted more practical, initiated primarily by the Center for Training and Apprenticeship and the Business Council, as well as for the dissemination of science and education in the region (such as the Patron School).

The Faculty paves the way for students and employees to pursue international careers, enabling scholarship trips under the Erasmus+ program to 33 partner countries. The Faculty is actively involved in environmental protection and climate change adaptation by implementing numerous activities under the Eco EkSoc initiative.
