DIDACTICS
The Institute of Statistics and Demography, together with the Institute of Econometrics, is responsible for the Econometrics and Data Analytics (EKAD) course of studies, which is offered at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
We conduct classes in the areas of mathematics, statistics, and demography at various faculties of the University of Łódź: the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Philology, the Faculty of Educational Sciences, the Faculty of Law and Administration, the Faculty of International and Political Studies, and the Faculty of Management.
At the undergraduate and graduate levels, certified courses are offered by Predictive Solutions in the application of IBM SPSS Statistics software for statistical analysis. An important aspect of the teaching activity also involves conducting analytical workshops for academic staff and PhD students at the University of Lodz, as well as for other national research institutions (including workshops organized by Predictive Solutions or under its patronage).
One of the most important successes of the Institute of Statistics and Demography in the field of didactics was the accession to the European Master in Official Statistics (EMOS) programme, which aims to train, at universities located in member and candidate countries of the European Union and within the European Free Trade Association, high-level specialists in local and European Public Statistics, but also to manage under conditions of dynamically changing information opportunities and information techniques.
In 2018, the Institute of Statistics and Demography at the University of Łódź responded to an invitation published by Eurostat to submit applications for participation in the European Master in Official Statistics (EMOS) program and submitted the candidacy of the Economic Analytics specialization within the Computer Science and Econometrics program for consideration. In February 2019, following a positive recommendation from the EMOS Council, the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) awarded the EMOS certificate to the University of Lodz.
In 2023, the European Statistical System Committee renewed the validity of the EMOS certificate. The certificate for the Master's degree programme in Econometrics and Data Analytics is valid until the end of the summer semester 2028.
Detailed information on the EMOS project is available on the European Commission website https://cros.ec.europa.eu/book-page/pl-university-lodz and on the CSO website https://emos.stat.gov.pl/.
