Wiedza i odwaga - Strategia UŁ przyjęta!

The Senate of the University of Lodz adopted the University's strategy for the years 2021-2030. Over the last few months, representatives of the University of Lodz authorities, academic and administrative staff, as well as students from various Faculties have been working on the document. Comments on the draft version of the Strategy could be submitted by the entire community of the University – during direct meetings or via a specially prepared form. The University of Lodz, in accordance with the assumptions of the Strategy, will focus on knowledge and will courageously reach for difficult, but important research topics. We just want to do a "good job".

"Good job" of the whole community

The works on the Strategy were managed by the Vice-Rector for External Relations, dr hab. Agnieszka Kurczewska (Prof. of the University of Lodz). She coordinated a team, which was divided into several working groups, composed of all representatives of the University (Faculty authorities, young and experienced scientists, administration employees and students). From the beginning, the assumption was to set all the priorities only in consultation with the entire community of the University of Lodz.

The strategy is a kind of signpost indicating which direction the University will be heading in the coming years, how it wants to develop and use its potential. It is also an answer to what and how can be done better. This is a vision of the future, but supported by a thorough analysis of the current situation and taking advantage of the past experience. Strategy is not a wish list, but a carefully thought-over action plan. We indicate knowledge and science as the main directions of the University's development. We add courage, the strength of diversity, the framework of the classical university and we have an outline of our uniqueness

says the Vice-Rector Agnieszka Kurczewska.

I would like to thank the Senators for adopting the Strategy and the entire community of the University of Lodz, especially members of the working teams, for their enormous contribution to its creation. To be an increasingly stronger academic centre, we must make bold scientific decisions, in line with the values that have been guiding us for decades, but at the same time with the awareness of the rapidly changing world

says Prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska, Rector of the University of Lodz.

Values and knowledge as the foundation of the University of Lodz

The basic values of the University of Lodz, listed in the Strategy, are: truth, freedom, courage, commitment, curiosity, cooperation and respect.

When we were thinking of values as a kind of reference point for our employees and students, we had in mind that we live in times that demand courage from each of us. Courage in thinking and acting, as well as not succumbing to fleeting trends or external pressures. For us, courage was the "starting value", followed by the subsequent ones: curiosity, commitment, cooperation and respect

explains prof. Agnieszka Kurczewska, Vice-Rector for External Relations of the University of Lodz and Chairperson of the strategy team.

Knowledge is the binder of the UL Strategy 2021-2023.

“In elaborating the mission and vision of the University of Lodz, we refer to the concept of knowledge. Science is the continuous development of knowledge, education is its systematics and dissemination, cooperation with the environment – efficient implementation of formulated conclusions. These three basic dimensions of the University functioning are linked by the fourth area – the University community, focused around the culture of knowledge, consolidating the ethos of people associated with knowledge, treating the University of Lodz as a common good. All these areas interpenetrate and reinforce one another."

we read in the Strategy.

This is just the beginning

As the Vice-Rector, Agnieszka Kurczewska emphasizes, the Strategy is a well-thought-over document and it is a compromise between the interests of individual groups within the University of Lodz, but it cannot be treated as something final and unchanging.

We are aware of the fact that the adoption of the Strategy is only the beginning of the road to improving the University. We will regularly account for our work, and of course we also anticipate that something along the way may change, new goals will appear or the current ones will be modified. The strategy was written in such a way so as to leave all of us acting flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly. The reality is very dynamic. However, the strategy will give us greater peace and the opportunity to focus on specific actions

explains the Vice-Rector, Agnieszka Kurczewska.
