Awans w QS World University Rankings: EECA

University of Lodz finishes the year of 2020 with a very positive evaluation outcome. QS World University Rankings: EECA has just been published and Uni Lodz was included in 20% of the best universities. We are ranked 78 (previously 83), overtaking institutions including Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, University of Gdansk, Lodz University of Technology and Warsaw University of Life Sciences - SGGW. Our University being ranked so high is the result of, among other things, a very good reputation among employers and high rating of research conducted by our researchers. Ranking is available at QS Top Univeristies website.

Information about the success of Uni Lodz was also published in press. We highly recommend the articles of "Gazeta Wyborcza" and "Dziennik Łódzki".

EECA Ranking, prepared by the Quacquarelli Symonds international organisation, conducts research on performance of universities of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The ranking analyses all the universities of this large area according to the following metrics:

· Academic Reputation from Global Survey, 30% (assessed through international survey which asks academics worldwide to identify the institutions they perceive to be conducting the best work in the own field),

· Employer Reputation from Global Survey, 20% (assessed through the second survey which asks graduate employers across the world to name the institutions they believe to be producing the best graduates in their sector),

· Faculty Student Ratio, 10% (number of students enrolled per full-time academic staff member; it assesses and compares teaching quality internationally and shows institution's commitment to providing high standards of academic support),

· Papers per Faculty from Scopus, 10% (based on papers published per academic staff member, it reflects research productivity),

· International Research Network Index, 10% (assesses the degree of international openness, reflects the diversity of an institution's research collaborations with other institutions across the world),

· Web Impact from Webometrics, 5% (reflects the extent of each institution's online presence, their commitment to international engagement and communication),

· Citations per Paper from Scopus, 5% (based on the frequency with which an institution's published papers are cited by other researchers around the world),

· Proportion of Staff with PhD, 5% (assessed by calculating the proportion of academic staff members at this level whose recruitment is a priority and growing strength for many leading universities),

· Proportion of International Students, 2,5%, and Proportion of International Faculty, 2,5% (shows the diversity of the institution's community and learning environment, as well as reflecting success in attracting academics and students across national borders).

Uni Lodz was rated as a university with a great scientific potential and a high quality of conducted research. Evaluation of this parameter is also related to a very good reputation among academics of international institutions and highly rated level of cooperation with international researchers. The number of cited papers written by academics of our University has also increased.

It would be impossible for our University to move up the ranking if the development strategy was implemented inconsistently. It is continued and implemented thanks to initiatives undertaken by the authorities of Uni Lodz. New grant competitions have been introduced allowing our most talented employees and students to conduct their research, participate in academic exchange programmes and apply to prestigious international research programmes. Research infrastructure is being developed and the construction of new buildings makes the university campus grow. We consolidate our position of a traditional research university; hence we may assume that Uni Lodz will take even higher positions in the following rankings.

University of Lodz is one of the biggest universities in Poland. Its mission is to educate top-class scientists and specialists in numerous fields of humanities, social sciences, natural and exact sciences as well as health sciences.
