POSITION DESCRIPTION

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

I graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Lodz in 1978. I earned my PhD in 1989, achieved the status of habilitated doctor in 1999, and reached the rank of full professor in 2014. Since 2002, I have held the position of Chair of Roman Law.

In addition to my role as Chair, I founded and have been leading the School of German Law, which has been in operation since 1999 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lodz, in collaboration with the Centre für Europäisches Privatrecht (CEP) at the University of Münster. My commitment to academia extended to my service as a member of the Disciplinary Committee for Academic Teachers at the General Council for Science and Higher Education. Furthermore, I served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Lodz for an extended period.

My scholarly contributions are extensive, including authorship and editorial roles in numerous research publications. I take pride in my membership in esteemed organizations such as the Łódź Scientific Society, the Association of Polish Legal Roman Studies, the Alliance française de Łódź, the Société Henri Capitant, and the Southern African Society for Legal History. Additionally, I am a member of the Waldemar Ceran Research Centre for the History and Culture of the Mediterranean Area and South-East Europe (Ceraneum). I also serve on the scientific committees of esteemed journals like "Teizė" (Lithuania) and "Sapientia Iuris." Furthermore, I hold the position of editor-in-chief of the "Studies in Law and Economics" journal.
