Rector of the University of Lodz (1984-1990)

He received a master's degree in physics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry of the University of Lodz in 1961, and a PhD in mathematics and physics in 1964. In 1969 he was awarded the postdoctoral degree by the Scientific Council of the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) in Warsaw, then in 1976 he became an associate professor, and in 1985 a full professor of physics.

He supported the activities of the University of Lodz for European integration, strengthened international cooperation (European Research Centre, Alliance Française and British Council, Alliance of Universities for Democracy). He was a chairperson of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities (1989-1990). 

He received a number of distinctions and national and international awards, including: Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (1982), Papal Order Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (1990), Officer's Cross of the Palmes Academices de la Republique Francaise (1986), Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. He passed away on 30 December 2018.
