Retired Judge of the Constitutional Court

 

Since graduating from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz (1978), she has worked at the Civil Law Department of the Faculty. In 1980, she passed the judge's exam at the District Court in Łódź. In 1987, she obtained the Diplme Suprieur de Droit Compar at the International Faculty of Comparative Law in Strasbourg. She completed foreign internships in France and Germany. She taught at the Faculty of Law in Nantes, Grenoble and Tours. She obtained her doctoral degree in 1987, her postdoctoral degree in 1995, the title of professor in 2003, and has been a full professor at the University of Lodz since 2006. In 2010, she received an honorary doctorate from the Université Franois Rabelais in Tours.

She is an author of several publications, including the monographs: Ochrona wierzyciela w razie niewypłacalności dłużnika [Creditor Protection in the Event of a Debtor's Insolvency], Uznanie długu [Acknowledgement of Debt], Potrącenie w prawie cywilnym [Deduction in Civil Law], as well as extensive excerpts from the System of Private Law devoted to: subjective law (2007), plurality of subjects (2006), termination of an obligation and creditor protection in the event of a debtor's insolvency (2009) and settlement agreements (2004), co-author and editor of Commentary to the Civil Code (2009).

Since 2012, she has been the Head of the Civil Law Department at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz. She has served as Vice-Dean of this Faculty and as a Dean in 2008-11. In 2003, she co-organised the French Law School at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the UL, which she runs in cooperation with the University of Tours. From 2000 to 2011, she served as a President of the Polish Section of the International Commission on Civil Status, and from 2006 to 2010 she was a member of the Commission for the Codification of Civil Law operating at the Ministry of Justice. In January 2011, she was elected by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland as a judge of the Constitutional Tribunal.

She was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit, the Medal of the Commission of National Education, as well as the title Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes acadmiques awarded by the Government of the French Republic. In 2015, the President of France appointed her a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour.
