PESEL NUMBER

HOW TO REGISTER TEMPORARY RESIDENCE IN POLAND

Polish law demands from foreigners to register their residence in Poland, if their stay in the country lasts longer than 30 days (for non-EU citizens) or 3 months (for EU/EEA citizens). Such procedure is called ‘zameldowanie na pobyt czasowy’ – temporary residence registration (e.g. for a period of work or studies).

You will also obtain the PESEL number  (Polish acronym for „Universal Electronic System for Registration of the Population”) after registering your residence in Poland for a stay of over 30 days. PESEL number is helpful in e.g. opening bank account, signing job contracts, and using public health services in Poland.

Legal base:

  • The Population Registration Act of 25 September 2010 (Journal of Laws of  2018 r. Item 1382),
